Count words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs instantly with our free Word Counter. Paste or type your text and every metric updates live as you write — no button to press, nothing to configure.

The tool shows the metrics writers care about: word count (the standard for essays, articles, and assignments), character counts with and without spaces (for social media limits like tweets), sentence count, paragraph count, and an estimated reading time based on an average pace of 225 words per minute.

Everything runs 100% in your browser — your text never leaves your device, so it is safe for private drafts, client work, or sensitive content. Whether you are hitting an essay length, trimming a headline to fit, or checking a post before publishing, the counter gives you the numbers instantly.

Často kladené otázky

How does word counting work?
Words are counted by splitting the text on any whitespace and counting non-empty segments. Characters are counted with and without spaces, and sentences by terminal punctuation (. ! ?).
How many words should an essay have?
It depends on the assignment: typical high-school essays run 300-800 words, college papers 1,000-2,500, and blog posts 1,000-2,000. Always follow the specific requirements you were given.
What is a good reading speed estimate?
Average adult silent reading is about 200-250 words per minute. The tool uses 225 wpm as a middle estimate — presentations often assume a slower 130-150 wpm spoken pace.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All counting happens locally in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to any server, so it is safe to paste private or sensitive text.
